Configure your own domain for the event website

In evenito, you can use your own website domains. You have the option to choose between using a wildcard domain (*) or individual (sub)domains.

Important notes:

The desired (sub)domain must first be secured by you and must not contain any content or be a subpage/extension of an existing website.

For your domain setup, you need access to both the domain's DNS settings and evenito.

Choose the right domain configuration for your event website

You have two options for the domain setup of your event websites. Choose the option that best fits your planning.

Note:

We recommend using a wildcard domain (*) as it offers more flexibility and reusability. With a wildcard, you can set up and use any number of subdomains in evenito without having to adjust the DNS settings, which simplifies and speeds up the process considerably.

Before we start with the setup, let's briefly clarify the terms. Imagine your online presence like a house:

The domain (main domain) is your "address" on the internet (e.g. company.com). It is the basis for everything. Your main website and your personal emails (Outlook/Gmail) are usually at home under this address.

The subdomain is like an "additional sign" or a separate department in your house. You put a word and a dot before your main domain (e.g. events.company.com or mail.company.com). The advantage: subdomains allow specific services (such as evenito) to be operated technically in isolation. Changes to a subdomain have no effect on the accessibility of the main page or the internal mail system.

The DNS entry acts as the "address directory" of the internet. When we speak of DNS entries (such as CNAME, TXT or A-Record) in the following steps, we mean the technical signposts that ensure that requests to your domain are correctly directed to the evenito servers.

Setup of a domain with wildcard (*) - The "carefree variant"

Imagine the wildcard like a placeholder (*). Once set up, you can put infinitely many different names before your domain without ever having to involve IT again for adjustments to the DNS settings.

Example: You set up *.events.company.com.

Your advantage: You can spontaneously use addresses like summerparty.events.company.com, webinar.events.company.com or conference2026.events.company.com.

Ideal for you if: You regularly plan different events and want to publish new websites immediately and without technical consultation.

Setup of a main or subdomain - The "single solution"

Here you define a very exact address for exactly one website.

Example: You only set up summit.events.company.com.

Limitation: If you want a new address for the next event, for example autumn-meeting.events.company.com, your IT must set this up again in the DNS settings and in evenito. This also applies to every further address.

Ideal for you if: You only implement one very specific event per year or require an explicit approval from your IT department for every project.

Technical implementation (for your IT)

No matter which option you choose, the connection is made via the DNS settings of your domain.

Recommended path (CNAME): create a CNAME entry that points to evenito.site

Alternative (A-Record only for main or subdomain): if your provider does not allow a CNAME, set an A-Record to the IP address 34.65.78.110

Additionally, a TXT entry must be stored. We need this to ensure that you are authorized to use this domain in evenito. You can find the exact value for this TXT entry directly in your evenito tool under the domain settings.

Step-by-step guide

The setup takes place in five steps, which we have listed for you below.

Step 1: Define domain type

First decide whether you want to use the flexible wildcard option (*) (for an unlimited number of events) or a single domain (for only one event).

Step 2: Store domain in evenito

For this step, you need admin rights for your evenito Space. If you do not have access yourself, an admin who has the required permissions can provide you with the necessary TXT entry from evenito.

First click on the arrow at the top left and open the "Space settings", then select the "Resources" area under the item "General settings".

In the "Website Domains" tab, you can enter your domain in the "Add item" field and then secure it by clicking the "Save changes" button at the top right to add the domain to the space.

Now click the checkmark Bildschirmfoto 2025-05-07 um 14.00.55 to the left of the domain to display the required DNS TXT record. Copy this code – you will need it for your IT / DNS settings.

Step 3: Configuration of the DNS settings (by your IT)

Send your IT department the following information:

For domain verification: The TXT entry from Step 2.

For linking the domain: A CNAME entry that points to evenito.site.

Should no CNAME be possible, an A-Record can alternatively be set to the IP 34.65.78.110. However, this setup should only be chosen for the setup of a single domain.

Note:

If your provider does not allow TXT and CNAME to be set at the same time, first store the TXT entry for verification (Step 5). As soon as the domain is verified in evenito, the TXT can be deleted in the DNS settings and replaced by the CNAME.

Step 4: Verification of the DNS configuration (optional)

Do you want to check for yourself whether IT has set everything up correctly?

Use a tool like MxToolbox.

Enter your domain and click on "DNS Lookup".

Does CNAME evenito.site or the IP 34.65.78.110 appear for the A-Record? Then everything is ready!

Step 5: Verify domain in evenito

Go back to evenito to your domain settings. First click on the arrow at the top left and open the "Space settings", then select the "Resources" area under the item "General settings".

In the "Website domains" tab, click the checkmark Bildschirmfoto 2025-05-07 um 14.00.55 to the left of the domain. The "Verify Domain" window will open. By clicking "Confirm," you start the comparison to check if the TXT record specified in evenito has been correctly stored in your DNS settings.

After successful verification, this window will close automatically, and a small dot with a checkmarkBildschirmfoto 2025-05-07 um 14.29.46to the right of the domain indicates that the setup was successful.

If the comparison is not successful, the window remains open and a corresponding error message "Verification of the domain failed" is displayed at the bottom right.

Congratulations!

Your domain is now ready to go. You can now publish your first event website.

In this article we explain how you can now create a website and put it live.

If you have already set up a website and now only want to adjust the domain in the website settings once more, please proceed as described in this article.

Accessibility with "www."

Nowadays, most users often enter addresses without the classic "www.". If you nevertheless want to ensure that your website is reachable via both variants, the following applies:

With the wildcard option (*): You don't need to do anything else. Your websites are automatically reachable under both https://www.google.com/search?q=event.company.com and https://www.google.com/search?q=www.event.company.com.

With a single domain: If you use a specific address, you must ensure that both versions (with and without www.) point to evenito.site in the DNS via a CNAME. This is the only way to ensure that your guests always find the page, regardless of how they enter the https://www.google.com/search?q=URL.

Note:

If you have the choice, we therefore recommend the wildcard option. This automatically catches the addition of www. without you having to create a separate technical entry for each variant.
