Creating a website and defining its structure

In this article, you will learn how to create a website and define its structure.

To ensure that the “Website” menu item appears in your navigation bar under “Communication,” first activate it in the “Modules” section.

Create website

To create a new event website in the “Website” menu item, click on the plus button in the top right corner.

In the “Create website” window, you can enter the following information:

Create from template”: If you don't want to create your website from scratch, but would rather use a template you have already saved, click on the drop-down menu and select the desired template. If you want to start with a blank website, simply leave this field blank.

To give your website a name, click on the “Name” field and enter a title there.

Please note:

The name you define for the website will be displayed to participants after they open the page in their browser tab.

The URL of the website consists of two components by default.

  • The first component, “URL,” is event-specific, so you can enter your event name here, for example.
When you first set up a website or create an event based on a copy or template, a unique combination of numbers and letters is automatically stored. You can customize this part of the URL either when creating the website or later in the website settings.
  • The second component, “Domain,” contains the general subdomain of your space. If more than one subdomain is stored in your space, you can select the desired domain from the drop-down menu.

Once you have entered the URL, the defined event URL will be displayed next to the website icon.

Please note:

The (sub)domain used must first be verified correctly so that the content can be displayed on the subdomain. You can find more information on how to do this here.

After publishing the website under the URL you defined, it can take up to 30 minutes for the security certificate to be automatically generated. Please reopen the website at a later time by clicking on the link. You can find more information in this article.

Actions

This action is irreversible.

Copy URL

To copy the published website URL, hover your mouse pointer over it. The copy icon will then appear on the right-hand side.

Please note:

If the website has not yet been published, the status “Offline” will be displayed. To publish the website, follow the steps described in this article.

Define structure

Once you have opened the website's edit mode, you can put together the desired “website structure.” Some of the content for the widgets must be stored in advance in the individual menu items in evenito (such as location, schedule, forms, or speakers).

The available widgets are displayed on the left under “Widgets.” To insert one into the website, drag and drop it into the white field to the right (“Drag your widget here”). A preview of it is immediately displayed on the right.

To check how your website will appear on your laptop/computer, tablet, or smartphone, you can click on the three icons on the right and switch between the views of the respective devices.

You can also click on the “Preview” link at the top left. This button only becomes active once you have saved all changes. You can find more information about the preview here.

Note:

Please always use the preview function during the setup of the event website to avoid different intermediate results due to caching in the browser.

In the “Website Structure” section, you can change the order of the widgets in the right-hand area using drag and drop.

No changes can be made in the website preview area on the right-hand side. Any adjustments must be made either in the widgets themselves or in the individual menu items in the tool.

Please note:

Some content, such as externally embedded videos and images, is not displayed as thumbnails in edit mode. However, all content can be accessed and used via the “Preview” button and the published website.

It may take a few minutes for the content to appear after saving the changes (in the preview) and after publishing (on the live website).

Available widgets

Each individual module has specific functions. You can find more detailed information about the individual widgets and their settings here.

Store anchors for individual widgets in the navigation

Do you want participants to jump directly to the most important points on your website (e.g., registration, program, or speakers) by clicking on the corresponding button in the navigation bar? In this article, we will show you how to set anchors.

Once you have defined your website content, you can save the color and design settings. To do this, follow the steps described here.
